Pema Chödrön, born Deirdre Blomfield-Brown on July 14, 1936, in New York City, is a Tibetan Buddhist nun, teacher, and best-selling author known for her teachings on mindfulness, compassion, and overcoming adversity. After encountering Tibetan Buddhism in the 1970s, Chödrön embarked on a spiritual journey that led her to study under the guidance of renowned Tibetan meditation master Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. She became one of the first Western women to be ordained as a Buddhist nun in the Tibetan tradition.
